(HUNTINGBURG) - A Huntingburg man is behind bars after he allegedly confronted police officers and became combative punching officers.

Huntingburg and Dubois County Police were called to McDonald's at 450 U.S. 231 at 10:29 p.m. Saturday after a report of an intoxicated man at the restaurant causing a disturbance.

When police arrived they confronted 40-year -old Johnathon Franzell, who began yelling and cursing at officers.

JPD says officers also noted Franzell appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. Officers on location say he was lethargic and slurring his speech

They asked him to leave the restaurant, but he refused. When one of the officers attempted to assist him, Franzell began throwing punches, forcing an officer to use a taser to subdue him.

Franzell was handcuffed and when police did a search of his pockets they found a hypodermic needle.

Franzell continued to be combative and made threatening comments toward the officers.

He was taken to Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation and then to the Dubois County Security Center on felony charges of battery on public safety official with injury, resisting law enforcement with injury, possession of a hypodermic needle, intimidation and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and public intoxication.

According to the Dubois County Sheriff's Department, Franzell has been arrested 16 times since 1998.
