City Of Bloomington To Sponsor Affordable Care Act Enrollment Event

Last updated on Friday, January 13, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington is partnering with Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana Navigators (ASPIN), IU Health Individual Solutions, and South Central Community Action Program’s Covering Kids and Families to offer Monroe County residents assistance in choosing a health care plan for 2017 through the Affordable Care Act (Health Insurance Marketplace).

The event will take place on Tuesday, January 24, at the Monroe County Public Library, room 1C from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Certified Indiana Navigators will be on-site to answer questions and enroll people into qualified health plans. Indiana Navigators provide free unbiased assistance and can work with families and individuals one-on-one to enroll in health care plans. Health insurance companies will display copies of their 2017 Health Insurance Marketplace Health Plans. There will also be information about Indiana Medicaid, Hoosier Healthwise and the Healthy Indiana Plan, which are state sponsored health plans for those who qualify for these benefits. Individuals and families are able to enroll in the state health plans at any time. To make the enrollment process more efficient, applicants should provide the following documents: social security numbers, birthdates of everyone in the household, household income, and other documents to verify identity such as a US passport, driver's license, and immigration status. Those who have previously created a Marketplace account should bring in their login and password information.

Open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace ends January 31, 2017. Individuals and families may still enroll after the January 31st deadline if they have a Qualifying Life Event, such as, loss of health coverage, changes in household (getting married or divorced, having a baby or adopting a child or death in a family), and changes in residence. Healthcare.gov has a list of Qualifying Life Events (QLE) which may also pertain to you or your family.

There are several free local resources that can explain coverage options, answer questions, and help individuals enroll who are unable to attend the event:

The event is free and open to the public. Please contact Nancy Woolery at (812) 349-3851 or wooleryn@bloomington.in.gov for questions or more information about the event.
