Last updated on Monday, January 2, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton has announced the successful candidate for the newly established Innovation Director position with the City of Bloomington.

After a national search, Hoosier native Tom Miller has accepted the position and will begin his duties on January 17. The creation of an Innovation Director position was the number one recommendation of Mayor Hamilton's Innovation Task Force. The City Council approved the creation of this new position as part of the City's 2017 budget.

The goal of the Innovation Director's position is to research and implement best practices for improving City government's performance and transparency of operations.

Miller is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, which he pursued as a Cox Research Scholar. He served the White House as an intern in the Office of Digital Strategy and helped re-elect President Obama by running the campaign's video program in the battleground state of Ohio. Miller, a creative entrepreneur, has worked across the country running the company he co-founded, Hardpin Media Productions.

"I'm excited to join the Hamilton administration and build on the culture of community and innovation Mayor Hamilton and his team have created at City Hall. I look forward to working with the talented folks in city government and citizens across Bloomington to help tackle some of the challenges facing the city," stated Miller.

"Tom has been remarkably successful in a relatively short period of time. His familiarity with systems and strategy, as well as his experience running a thriving production firm, will bring great value and fresh ideas to City operations. I know Tom, and I know his great love of Bloomington and his embrace of progressive ideals will inform his choices as Innovation Director," commented Mayor Hamilton.

Miller's salary will be $71,400.
