(HUNTINGBURG) - An Alabama man was arrested by Indiana State Police detectives on multiple sexual assault charges after he allegedly raped a female he met online.

On Monday, a woman took herself to an Evansville area hospital after she had been raped at a motel in Huntingburg.

The woman told police she had met 23-year-old Jeffrey Scott Vanheereweghe, of Crossville, Alabama through the dating app "Tinder."

He was working locally installing equipment at a facility for his company, so the two decided to met Monday evening at the Quality Inn in Huntingburg.

Investigators learned that after initially participating within a consensual relationship, Vanherreweghe allegedly became violent, performing multiple sexual acts on the female against her wishes, while she was attempting to scream for help and for him to stop.

Investigators say, Vanherreweghe's co-workers heard the screaming and knocked on the hotel door multiple times to intervene; but Vanherreweghe allegedly told them to go away.

They then obtained a key to the room from the front desk to attempt to enter. This allowed the woman to get free, long enough to unlock the deadbolt.

The female was able to retrieve her belongings and was escorted from the room by Vanherreweghe's co-workers.

After speaking with witnesses and the ISP Crime Scene Technicians collecting evidence from the hotel room, investigators interviewed Vanherreweghe.

He was later arrested him without incident on felony charges of rape, criminal confinement and sexual battery.

He is currently being held at the Dubois County Security Center
