Last updated on Tuesday, January 24, 2017

(SHOALS) - A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the subject in the car that was stopped and fired shots at a Martin County Deputy during a traffic stop on Monday.

Police say do not attempt to engage the subject, call 911 and report the information.

On Monday, at 5:15 a.m., Martin County Deputy Sheriff Danny Salmon pulled over a light colored 2012-2017 Dodge Dart on Mobley Road, about four miles north of Shoals.

As Deputy Salmon began speaking with the driver, the driver pulled out a handgun and attempted to point it at Salmon. Salmon and the driver began struggling for the weapon when the driver pulled the trigger, firing a round at Salmon and narrowly missing him.

The driver attempted to flee the scene with his vehicle, dragging Salmon for a short distance. Salmon pulled his weapon and fired one shot at the driver.

The driver traveled east on State Road 450 near Trip Road before sight of him was lost.

The suspect is a white male, believed to be approximately six feet tall, and was wearing a black hooded shirt and blue jeans.

The suspect is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting or a possible suspect is asked to contact the Martin County Sheriff's Department at (812) 247-3726.
