(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour suffered serious injures after a head-on collision on State Road 258, just west of Seymour on Tuesday morning.

Indiana State Police troopers along with Seymour Police officers and Jackson County Sheriff deputes responded to the crash around 10 a.m.

According to an ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, a 2012 Freightliner hauling a box trailer, driven by 46-year-old Richard Santel, of Carlyle, IL, was traveling east on State Road 258 approaching Bell Ford Drive when for an unknown reason the semi crossed the centerline. Santel's vehicle, which is owned by Rose Acre Farms, struck a westbound 2012 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 75-year-old Nancy Wilson, of Seymour.

After the collision, both vehicles left the roadway before coming to a stop.

The Seymour Fire Department and Jackson County EMS responded to the scene and freed Wilson from the wreckage of her vehicle. She was then flown from the scene by helicopter to St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of her injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Santel was not injured in the crash.

As required by law, Santel submitted to a drug and alcohol screen at a nearby medical facility. Sgt. Wheeles, says drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in this collision.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Sgt. Wheeles was assisted by other troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, officers from the Seymour Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Jackson County EMS, Seymour Fire Department, Hamilton Township Fire Department, and 31 Wrecker Service.
