IU Winter Commencement Is Saturday

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University’s winter commencement is Saturday at Simon Skojdt Assembly Hall.

The ceremony typically runs 90 minutes and will begin at 10 a.m.

The oldest graduate is 66, and the youngest is 20.

The event includes the procession of degree candidates, an address by a Commencement speaker Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Linda Greenhouse. She is the Knight Distinguished Journalist in Residence and Joseph M. Goldstein Senior Fellow at Yale Law School. She is a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter who covered the United States Supreme Court for nearly three decades for The New York Times

Greenhouse will be followed with inductions into the IU Alumni Association, the hooding of Ph.D. and doctoral candidates, and the conferral of degrees.

According to a university press release, nearly 2,000 graduates will be honored, with a total of 2,015 degrees awarded. Some students have earned more than one award. Of those, 1,378 will be bachelor's degrees, 508 will be master's, 118 will be doctoral research degrees, two will be doctoral practice degrees, eight will be specialist degrees and one will be an associate's degree.

Officials say no special traffic patterns will be put in place. All parking lots around Assembly Hall will be open and free to the public. Doors open at 8 a.m., and there are no reserved seats. However, people with special needs can call University Events at (812) 855-3762 for specific accommodations.

All spectators will be seated on the west side of Assembly Hall and concession stands will be open along the west concourse. The IU Varsity Shop will have stands in both the north and south lobbies.
