Former Seymour Police Dog Dies

Last updated on Tuesday, December 27, 2016

(SEYMOUR) - Seymour police are reporting that former police dog Koa has died.

The dog served the department from 2004 to 2010. Since retiring Koa has been living with his partner, Ian McPherson and family.

Koa, whose health was declining and having difficulty walking, received a police escort, fittingly, as his last ride to Seymour Animal Hospital before he was euthanized.

The police department credits Koa with restarting the department's K-9 program. Koa is credited with numerous arrests and seizures of illegal drugs and thousands of dollars generated through drug transactions. He participated in countless public appearances. He earned the honorary rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army for providing training and demonstrations to deploying military units.

Koa was 14 years old.
