Last updated on Monday, December 5, 2016

(LOOGOOTEE) - A former Loogootee police officer reportedly committed suicide after being arrested last week.

Martin County police arrested 51-year-old Glen Akles Wednesday night after an investigation by detectives and the Indiana Department of Child Services. He was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor and patronizing a prostitute.

Akles bonded out of the Martin County Jail early Thursday morning.

According to police, Akles apparently shot himself at his home Thursday at 4:05 p.m. Subsequently he was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead around 6 p.m.

Akles had served several years with the Loogootee Police Department, but resigned approximately three months ago following his arrest for allegedly furnishing alcohol to a minor.
