Convenience Store Clerk Injured During Robbery

Last updated on Wednesday, December 14, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - A convenience store clerk was injured Monday, during a robbery at Our Way C Store on West 11th Street in Bloomington.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, officers were called to a robbery in progress at the store at 2:15 a.m.

Police say the clerk was not robbed once, but twice.

The clerk told police a regular customer had entered the store, upset and crying. The clerk offered to purchase the customer a fountain drink, gave the man a hug and allowed him to charge his dead cell phone.

"The man then asked the clerk to look away so he could take money out of the register," Kellams added. "The clerk refused to do that."

That is when the man grabbed the clerk, punched him in the head, took the cash and fled the store.

While the clerk was calling 911, the man returned, punched the clerk again and took money from a second register and fled.

The clerk suffered a cut to his face and was treated at the scene by medics.
