(ELLETSVILLE) - A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Bloomington man who is a suspect in the bank robberies in Bloomington and Ellettsville this past summer.

According to a police report, 53-year-old Billy Joe McAuley entered the Peoples State Bank at 1406 West Temperance St., in Ellettsville on June 30 and handed the teller a note demanding cash. After receiving the money, he allegedly fled into the woods.

A similar robbery occurred two weeks later at a downtown Bloomington branch of Chase Bank, 100 South College Ave., on July 14.

Information uncovered during the investigation, both Ellettsville and Bloomington police to request a warrant for McAuley's arrest on two counts of felony robbery.

McAuley is currently being held in an Indiana Department of Corrections facility on an unrelated charge.

A hearing on the charges has been set for Thursday in the Monroe Circuit Court, with Judge Teresa Harper presiding.
