Bloomfield Woman Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Thousands From Hearing Aid Customers

Last updated on Thursday, December 22, 2016

(BLOOMFIELD) - A Bloomfield woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from clients at a Miracle Ear in Bloomington.

Bloomington Police arrested 35-year-old Kristy McIntyre on felony charges of theft, five counts of identity deception and five counts of forgery.

According to a Monroe County Circuit Court 3 probable cause affidavit, McIntyre was arrested after they discovered customers were purchasing hearing aids and McIntyre was keeping the money.

In August 2015 a customer purchased a set of hearing aids for $3,215 and paid the bill in cash.

But according to Miracle Ear, there was no record of the order and the business never received payment for the hearing aids, so they were never delivered.

Then in September 2015, McIntyre reportedly set up a financing account without a customer's knowledge. That customer had purchased a set of hearing aids from McIntyre for $2,500.

Even though the customer had insurance which would paid for the hearing aids, McIntyre set up a financing account for (him) through HealthiPlan without his knowledge.

On September 22, the customer received a check from his health insurance company, but McIntyre told him the business would not accept checks.

The customer then began receiving notices on June 8, 2016 stating the account that McIntyre set up, was past due.

He returned to the store and showed them the notices. McIntyre told the man she would contact the financing company and fix the issue, she never did and Miracle Ear never received payment for the hearing aids.

Similar situations reportedly occurred in December 2015, January 8, February 1, February 25, March 3, March 4, March 11, April 20, May 23 and May 31.
