Bethel County Church Hosting Blessings In A Barrel Saturday, Cheering On Capt. Purple

Last updated on Friday, December 16, 2016

(OOLITIC) - Bethel County Church is hosting Blessings In a Barrel - Christmas Blessings on Saturday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The Church is located at 2 Hoosier Avenue in Oolitic.

This free event is an outreach in effort to reach those in the community that need a little extra cheer this holiday season.

There will be refreshments served, as well as the real story of Christmas and a gift for each child.

The members of Bethel County Church have felt for some time that the church needs to be working in outreaches with the community - Matthew 25:35-36 "For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me."

Blessings in a Barrel was started as a first step in the direction that the church felt God was leading them. The barrels are first being used to collected toys donated by members of the church to hand out, and will be used to collect food after the first of the year. Once the barrels are filled, the food will be handed out to those that are in need.

Another outreach is Boxes of Blessing. The boxes contain personal hygiene products (deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc), gloves, hats, and small non-perishable food items to be handed out to the homeless in Lawrence and Monroe counties.

The church is looking for donations of coats and blankets they can distribute.

The church feels like the recent banner left by Captain Purple, the local hero from the early 80s, stating that it was time to help again was the confirmation needed to know they are working in the right direction.

On Bethel County Church Facebook page, there is a video posted addressing Captain Purple and his mission and the church supporting him in his mission
