Washington County Sheriff's Department Seeking Funds For New K-9

Last updated on Friday, November 11, 2016

(SALEM) - The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is seeking funds to fund a new K-9 Unit.

According to Lt. Ryan Larrimore, the department needs to raise about $25,000.

"This covers the dog, training class, equipment and kennel," he said. "Due to budget constraints, we are asking for the public's assistance in this matter to help meet our goals."

Officer Paul Ginkins, who has been with the department since 2014, will be working with the dog and both will attend an intensive multi-week training course.

The dog will be used to locate and detect illegal narcotics during traffic stops, at businesses and schools and help raise drug awareness with youth.

"With increased awareness, the K-9 will hopefully serve as a deterrent to drug trafficking and arrests in Washington County," Larrimore added.

Donations can be dropped off or mailed to: Washington County Sheriff's Department, Attn: K-9 Donation Fund, 801 Jackson Street, Salem, IN 47167
