Last updated on Friday, November 4, 2016

(FERDINAND) - A traffic stop Thursday afternoon led to the arrest of two California natives and the seizure of a significant quantity of marijuana.

At 1 p.m., Master Trooper Brian LaRoche pulled over a 2007 Toyota for speeding along Interstate 64 near the Ferdinand exit.

While conducting the traffic stop, Trooper LaRoche smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, giving him probable cause to conduct a vehicle search. While searching the vehicle, Trooper LaRoche found a bag containing 1.7 pounds (771 grams) of marijuana.

Both the driver, 20-year-old Jocelyn Sanchez, of Placentia, CA, and the passenger, 21-year-old Edwin Echeverria-Barajas, of Anaheim, CA, were arrested without incident and transported to the Dubois County Security Center. Both are being charged with a Level 6 felony of possession of marijuana.

Trooper LaRoche was assisted by the Ferdinand Police Department.
