(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police arrested three people Saturday on multiple drug charges after they fled police during a traffic stop.

Police say 32-year-old Amanda Bridgewater of Bloomington was driving a 1990 GMC Jimmy along State Road 37 near Main Street in Mitchell when Bedford police pulled her over for an expired license plate.

According to Assistant Chief Joe DeWees, the officer got out of his patrol car and approached the vehicle and that is when Bridgewater drove off south on State Road 37.

Bridgewater drove through Mitchell and Orleans before stopping at the intersection of State Road 37 and County Road 250 North, between Orleans and Paoli.

"Our car came to a stop beside the Jimmy,' Assistant Chief DeWees says. "The vehicle turned right, clipping the front of the police car and drove into a field."

The vehicle stopped and two male passengers in the car, 22-year-old Calvin Bland of Bloomington and 30-year-old Cory Turner, also of Bloomington, refused to get out of the vehicle. Officers then forcibly removed them from the vehicle.

Police found meth, heroin, marijuana and several syringes in the vehicle.

All three were taken to the Lawrence County jail, where jail officers found a small bag of drugs in Turner's pocket.

Bridgewater is facing charges of possession of a narcotic drug (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving resulting in property damage, resisting arrest by fleeing, resisting arrest by force, unlawful manufacturing of or distribution of or possession with the intent to manufacture a substance, possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance.

Turner is facing charges of possession of meth, possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, resisting arrest by fleeing, resisting arrest by force, visiting a common nuisance, trafficking with an inmate, wanted on a warrant for failure to appear.

Bland is facing charges of unlawful manufacturing of/or distribution of/or possession with the intent to manufacture a substance, resisting arrest by force, resisting arrest by fleeing, possession of marijuana, visiting a common nuisance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a narcotic substance (heroin), and on a warrant for failure to appear.

All three remained in jail this morning with bonds set at $7,500 surety or $755 cash.
