Springs Valley High School's Blackhawk Brigade Earn State Class D Championship

(FRENCH LICK) - Springs Valley High School’s Blackhawk Brigade earned the state Class D championship in competition Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Paoli High School's Pride of Paoli placed third in Class D.

Springs Valley Band Director Luke Aylsworth says the band was undefeated this season.

Springs Valley's band program is recognized as one of the most successful in the state with the Brigade placing in the Indiana State School Music Association state finals 27 times, 11 years consecutively. They have finished first or second seven times. They also have won three championships, seven championship runners-up and were a Bands of America National Semi-finalist Class A medalist.

The Pride of Paoli, Band Director Bill Laughlin says the band did terrific. 1982 was the first year of Paoli appearing in the state finals and 34 years later, they are still performing there.

The Paoli band will celebrate the season at a banquet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the PHS cafeteria. Awards will be presented and the band's performance then will be shown on a large screen.
