(BEDFORD) - A Medora woman was injured after a deer darted into the roadway and caused her to lose control of her pickup.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 24-year-old Shann Johnson was traveling west on Sparksville Road near the Lawrence/Jackson County line when a deer jumped out in front of her 1995 Ford F-350.

Police say Johnson swerved the truck to miss the deer and got the right driver's side tire off the roadway into some loose dirt and leaves. That caused the truck to go further off the roadway and hit several small trees before hitting a bigger pine tree. That caused a portion of the truck to come out into the roadway and roll onto its side and then onto its top. It stopped rolling after striking another large tree on the driver's side.

Johnson was trapped inside of the truck under the steering wheel and had to be free from Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.

Johnson suffered leg and foot pain. She was taken to a local hospital and then flown by State Flight to a trauma center.

Assisting at the scene was Guthrie Volunteer Fire Department.
