Martin County Sheriff's Department Officer And K9 Complete Training

(SHOALS) - The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reports that Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Reed and K9 Virka completed the American Police Canine Association K9 Team Training School Friday.

Deputy Reed has been a law enforcement officer for 3.5 years and has been employed by the Martin County Sheriff's Office since February of 2016.

K9 Virka is a 3.5 year old German Shepherd and has been with the agency since May of 2015.

The APCA is a nationally accredited K9 training organization.

The school lasted 7 weeks and consisted of 3 weeks of narcotics training and 4 weeks of patrol training.

The narcotics school included training in container, building, and vehicle searches.

The patrol school included training in obedience, tracking, aggression, area search, building search, and article search.
