(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Highway crews are done paving this year, but continue to work to get roads ready for paving next year.
Superintendent David Holmes reported that crews are currently replacing culverts on area roads for paving for next year.
"Oolitic Road and Stars Boulevard are completed and turned our really nice," Holmes told the commissioners Tuesday morning. "We will pave Old Ind. 37 in the spring."
Bridge crews are also busy at work. Crews are replacing and repairing guardrails and patching bridges.
Bridge 113 on Springville Judah Road is now open to traffic and was inspected by state officials on Monday.
The bridge over Spring Creek was closed after an accident in July knocked out a pier from under the bridge and caused other substantial damage. The bridge is located between Popcorn and Harrodsburg roads.
Crews completed work Bridge 83 on Logan Donica Road just off Logan Bottoms Road and the bridge is now open. Crews cut a large section, 10 feet by 20 feet, to repair the deck after a large hole weakened the concrete deck.
"No weight limit has been set on the bridge yet," Holmes added.
CLR crews will now begin work to replace the 100-foot bridge on Jasper McKeaigg Road. The cost of the project will be around $460,000.
In other business:
Sheriff Mike Branham reported there were 139 inmates in the county jail. Of those 29 were females, 11 were Level D felons and there was 1 Department of Correction holds.
"These numbers are trending a little high for this time of year," Sheriff Branham reported.
DLZ engineers who will make repairs on the ramps should begin accepting bids for the project in December. Sheriff Branham estimated the cost at $160,000 to repair both ramps in front of the sheriff's department to make them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Commissioners voted to renew an IT contract on the courthouses security DVRs. There was no cost, rate or hourly increase. The contract also called for a monthly maintenance and cleaning of the security system
