Last updated on Tuesday, November 8, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - This year’s Indiana University Dance Marathon set a another record year raising $4.1 million for Riley Hospital for Children.

Last year the group raised $3.8 million.

Indiana University Dance Marathon is a yearlong fundraising and awareness effort that culminates in a 36-hour dance marathon during which more than 3,000 IU students remain standing and awake over the course of 36 consecutive hours to honor the children at Riley and "stand for those who cannot".

Since its establishment in 1991, IUDM has become the nation's second-largest student run philanthropic organization and has raised more than $24 million for the hospital's Ryan White Center for Infectious Disease.

Students in neon tutus and blanket capes with Riley tattoos on their faces throw footballs, dance and jump in the bounce house.

"United by passion, powered by hope" proclaims the dancers dedication to the cause, who set and often surpass fundraising goals that range from $500 to $20,000 for each participant.
