Bloomington Woman Killed In Saturday Accident Involving Seals Ambulance

(BLOOMINGTON) - Monroe County Sheriff’s Department has identified the woman killed following an accident Saturday afternoon on Ind. 37.

The accident involving a Seals ambulance happened at 4:34 p.m. at the corner of Ind. 37 and South Victor Pike.

According to Monroe County Sheriff's Department Capt. Ryan Davis, 61-year-old Mary Pietsch, of Bloomington, was traveling west on South Victor Pike when her PT Cruiser was struck by a Seals Ambulance traveling north on Ind. 37. The ambulance was carrying a driver, medics and a patient and had its lights and sirens on.

Pietsch was the only person in the PT Cruiser and was pronounced dead at the scene by an Indiana University Health medic.

IU Health dispatched three ambulances to the scene. The patient inside the ambulance involved in the crash was transferred to another ambulance.

The coroner and accident re-constructionists were called to the scene at 5:15 p.m.
