(BEDFORD) - A new show at the Wiley Art Center will explore nearly 50 years of W. David Fields' career.

An award-winning painter, Fields has been active with the Lawrence County Art Association since the summer of 1967. He serves on the LCAA board of directors.

Fields recently completed a painting of the Lawrence County Courthouse for the Indiana State Bar Association, where it is displayed with many other paintings of Indiana courthouses as part of a special Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project.

A native of Lawrence County, Fields graduated from Oolitic High School, Rochester College and Harding University. Fields taught drawing, painting, design and art history at the college level and served as dean of students for Rochester College. Upon returning to Bedford in 1971, Fields painted full time. Later in that year, he accepted a part-time job with the U.S. Postal Service, eventually working into a full-time position and retiring with 40 years of service.

Fields' work has been displayed in shows of the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Heritage Arts, Bloomington Art Guild, Brown County Art Gallery and the annual Persimmon Festival show. His paintings can also be found in corporate, public and private collections. He continues teaching acrylic painting and accepts commissions.

Fields' new show will feature acrylic, oil, watercolor, ink drawings and a new triptych (a work of art in three sections). LCAA president Sammie Justesen said, "We're proud to showcase David's art. He's a beloved member of LCAA, always willing to share his talent by teaching classes, doing critiques and supporting other artists."

A public reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 28, and the show will continue through Nov. 28. The Wiley Art Center is at 14th and J Streets in downtown Bedford. Hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 1-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
