Last updated on Tuesday, October 11, 2016

(BEDFORD - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lawrence County received the Gateway to Impact Award Gold Award from the from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

The Gateway to Impact Awards honor clubs with outstanding attendance - those that are making or maintain important strides to build capacity. This recognition means the Boys & Girls Club is providing youth development programs to more and more children and teenagers in our community.

In 2005, Boys & Girls Clubs of America partnered with Search Institute to determine the impact that Boys & Girls Clubs have on young people, particularly as it pertains to attendance. Their research showed that youth who attend clubs at least 52 times per year were more likely to achieve academic success, demonstrate good character and leadership skills, and lead healthier lifestyles than their peers.

"Our mission is to serve young people, but we have to take it a step further - we have to make an impact - and this award shows that we are on the right path," said Board member Holly Davis.

More than 500 attendees were at the conference.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County were one of the twelve clubs of the more than 173 clubs who received this award.
