(HUNTINGBURG) - A chase through Huntingburg ends with a man crashing his car and police placing him behind bars.

Huntingburg police arrested 45-year-old Robert Hoffman on charges of drunk and reckless driving after allegedly clocking him driving through the city at 108 mph early Wednesday morning.

Hoffman led police on a chase over 10 city blocks before he was arrested.

Police reported the incident began when an officer saw a black Jeep Cherokee traveling south on Main Street/U.S. 231 at 108 mph near Phoenix Drive at about 3:11 a.m. When officers attempted to stop the Jeep, it continued south and attempted to turn onto 22nd Street. When it did, the SUV went off the road and struck a stop sign.

The SUV then returned to the roadway and continued on 22nd Street before turning south on Chestnut Street and sped away. When the driver attempted to turn onto 12th Street he again lost control and went off the roadway where police were finally able to take him into custody.

Police determined Hoffman's blood alcohol content was .11 percent and arrested him on charges of resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, operating while intoxicated, endangering and reckless driving.

He was booked into the Dubois County Security Center.
