New Allegations Made Against Bloomington Bus Driver Arrested On Child Exploitation Charges

Last updated on Friday, October 21, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police are investigating new allegations that a Monroe County bus driver was taking photographs of young girls who rode his school bus.

Police arrested 43-year-old Timothy Poteat on a felony charge of child exploitation Tuesday afternoon. He was taken into custody at the Monroe County Community School Corp. transportation office moments after he parked bus No. 44 at the end of his afternoon route for Fairview Elementary students. He was arrested after investigators received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on October 11.

Bloomington Police Department Lt. Brad Seifers says that a woman called police on Wednesday, reporting that her daughters, who were sitting together on the bus, had their picture taken with a "small camera" by Poteat. The girls, 8 and 7-years-old, told police the incident happened within the past month.

Police say the investigation has uncovered more images than the initial tip suggested, and just one of several electronic devices has been examined after police seized two computers, six phones and several external hard and flash drives from Poteat's home at 844 East Miller Drive.

Police are asking parents whose children had contact with Poteat to speak to them and anyone with suspicious activity to report should call Detective Chris Guidry at (812) 349-3328.
