(BLOOMINGTON) - A motorcyclist died from his injuries after a head-on collision Sunday afternoon on Ind. 446 in Monroe County.

The highway was shut down for about three hours while police investigated the accident.

According to an Indiana State Police report, 75-year-old Charles Kaufman of Bloomington fell asleep around 1:30 p.m. while driving his 2013 Hyundai Accent while traveling north on Ind. 446 at Tower Ridge Road.

Kaufman's vehicle drifted into the southbound lane and struck a southbound motorcycle head-on driven by 65-year-old Ronnie Wier. Kaufman told police he woke up just prior to colliding with the motorcycle.

Wier suffered critical head injuries and was transported to Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital and was then flown to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he passed away on Monday.
