Monroe Co. Bus Driver Accused Of Child Molestation To Appear In Court Today

Last updated on Tuesday, October 25, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Officials say nine sexual images of naked girls sent from a Monroe County Community School bus driver’s email account on September 29 prompted Yahoo officials to notify the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children about him being a possible child pornographer.

Bloomington police began their investigation on October 11 and linked the email to 43-year-old Timothy Poteat.

A week later, officers served a search warrant at Poteat's home at 844 East Miller Drive. Police confiscated a Macintosh computer which contained pictures of an elementary-aged girl being sexually assaulted with a toothbrush handle and also being forced to commit oral sex on Poteat.

Officials reported finding bedding in the home that matches a blanket and pillows depicted in sexually explicit pictures and videos.

A Martinsville woman identified her daughter as being in the girl in the pictures. She was interviewed at Susie's Place in Bloomington, where she confirmed it was her in the photos and the male was Poteat.

On the afternoon of October 18, Poteat was arrested on a charge of child exploitation at the Monroe County Community School Corp. bus lot on East Miller Drive after he returned bus No. 44 after his Fairview Elementary School route.

He later posted bond and was released from jail.

Late Friday night, police arrested Poteat again after interviewing him at the Bloomington police station. Additional charges, two counts of child molesting and two counts of possession of child pornography, were added. He could also be facing federal charges.

On Monday afternoon, Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Todd ordered that Poteat continue being held without bond. He will appear in court today for an initial hearing.
