Mitchell Man Sentenced To 30 Years After Pleading Guilty To Rape

Last updated on Wednesday, October 12, 2016

(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two 17-year-old girls.

Lawrence County Superior Court Judge William Sleva sentenced 40-year-old Michael Todd King to 30 years with the Indiana Department of Correction.

Indiana State Police arrested King on April 7 charging him with four counts of rape and three counts of incest because the two girls are related to him.

King pleaded guilty to two Level 3 felony counts of rape and the other charges were dismissed in a negotiated plea agreement.

However, that plea agreement allowed Judge Sleva to sentence King to an appropriate sentence under the law. It did cap the number of years executed at the Department of Corrections to nine.

Judge Sleva ordered King to serve four and half years in prison on each count with 10.5 years suspended for each count. King received credit for 251 days already served. In addition, he will receive credit for one extra day served for every three days actually served in prison.

King was also ordered to have no contact with the victims until both girls are 18 years old.
