(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Mayor JD England is seeking public input on the city's parks to create a five-year master plan to obtain grant funding.

The public is encouraged to attend a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell City Hall.

The Times-Mail reports the city is working with its grant-writing firm, Administrative Resources association, to draw up the five-year plan. The goal is to come up with a short-term maintenance plan and long-term goals.

Members of the park board -- Joe Stewart, Angela Turpin, Mark Jessie and Leah Voorhies -- toured the parks Wednesday night to get an idea of immediate needs. One major concern is safety and blighted equipment.

But new playground equipment is costly, that is why there is a need for a master plan to seek grant money.

A preliminary schedule has the master plan finalized in April, allowing ARa to make the submission to the Department of Natural Resources round of funding in May or June.
