(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County has been added to a list of counties under investigation for alleged voter fraud.
According to a press release from Indiana State Police Headquarters, the investigation began in late August and now includes a total of 56 counties throughout the state, including Lawrence County.
County Clerk Myron Rainey says those with concerns can call the voter registration office.
"You can also check your information on www.IndianaVoters.com," Rainey says.
Rainey notes that there are checks and balances to ensure voter registration is correct and accurate in place at the Voter Registration Office.
If you register online, your information has to coincide with your driver's license or I.D. card.
If you register in person, you have to supply verification that has your name and address on it, such as a bill.
If you register by mail, your registration is flagged for poll workers so they will know that you need to produce identification.
According to the press release, it is "especially prudent for voters who live in listed counties to verify their voter information."
Victims may not discover there is a problem until they go to vote and realize their voting information has been altered. If after checking voter information and finding inaccurate information, contact the Voter Registration office and the Indiana State Police Voter Registration Application Fraud tip line at 888-603-3147.
The press release also add is is the normal practice of the Indiana State Police to refrain from providing detailed updates of an active investigation, this exception is being made due to the deadline for Indiana voters to register or update their voter registration information.
The deadline for Indiana voters to register on line is 11:59 p.m. today.
