(SWITZ CITY) - According to a press release from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, a 73-year-old female operating a 2011 Kia Sedona has been interviewed in a hit and run case.

The operator was passing through the construction zone on State Road 54 when she struck what she believed to be an orange barrel.

The woman, who is not being named at this time, told police she traveled further down the roadway and then pulled over to examine the damage to her vehicle. The operator then continued westward.

Vehicle debris located at the scene positively identified the suspect vehicle. Video from local schools and residents provided a vehicle description.

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles provided a list of vehicles matching the description located in Greene and surrounding counties.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department says the accident happened around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning on State road 54 in Switz City.

"A worker had just been dropped off for her shift and was hit," Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Chris Anderson says. "She suffered possible broken bones and was flown by helicopter from the scene to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis."

A black SUV traveling west hit a construction worker and then left the scene of the accident.
