(HURON) - A Washington man was injured after the semi tractor-trailer he was driving overturned on U.S. 50 West early this morning.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 62-year-old Robert Jones Jr. complained of both back and hip pain. He was taken by a Seals ambulance crew to IU Health Hospital for treatment.
The accident happened at 2:44 a.m.
Police say Jones was traveling west on U.S. 50 West when he rounded a curve, causing a tire to partially leave the road. Jones was able to negotiate the semi back onto the roadway, but the trailer shifted and tipped over causing the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle skidded off the right side of the road, destroying a mailbox.
The semi tractor-trailer stopped along an embankment between a wooden fence and a guard rail.
Jones was injured when he unfastened his seat belt, causing him to fall to the bottom of the overturned semi.
The vehicle, registered to Bernard Harner and Sons of Washington, was carrying a load of turkeys in the trailer. A cleanup crew transfer the turkeys to another truck.
The Huron Fire Department assisted at the scene.
