(BEDFORD) - The public will have a chance to experience the difficulties encountered by the visually impaired during an annual dining event, sponsored by the South Central Association of the Visually Impaired.

This year, "Dining in the Dark" will be October 13 at 6 p.m. at the Bedford First Baptist Church Christian Life Center, 1515 20th St. And for the first time, the Bedford Noon Lions will assist SCAVI with the event by selling tickets and serving the meal.

The menu includes a choice of chili, sandwiches, desserts and a drink. Guests will be encouraged to wear a blindfold while eating to get a feel for how a totally blind person eats. However, dining blindfolded is not required, and diners are encouraged to relax and enjoy their meals.

SCAVI will have members on hand to provide information and answer questions.

Noon Lions currently have tickets available at $8 each, or tickets can be purchased at Limestone Capitol Automotive, 1403 H St., Inklings Bookstore, 1020 16th St., or Hoosier Door, 201 Main St., Oolitic.

Anyone who wants to order tickets by mail may do so by sending a check (for the number of tickets times $8 each) made out to "Bedford Noon Lions Club" to: P.O. Box 272, Bedford, IN 47421. The purchaser's tickets will be waiting at the ticket table at the dining event.

"Dining in the Dark" is in collaboration with White Cane Safety Day, which is observed annually on October 15.
