(OOLITIC) - Dennis Whitaker was hired to serve as interim principal at Dollens Elementary School.
The North Lawrence school board voted Thursday for Whitaker to fill the post on a day-by-day basis, with the contract effective on October 10.
Whitaker, a former Bedford North Lawrence High School assistant principal, fills a vacancy that was created when Dollen's Principal Sandy Scherschel, after having served one year, asked to return to the classroom. She will fill a math teacher vacancy at Shawswick Middle School.
The Times Mail reports that Whitaker retired from NLCS in 2010 after he served as a teacher and seven years as an assistant principal at BNL. He was hired in January 2013 as an interim assistant principal, on a day-by-day basis, when David Beaver resigned.
In September 2015, Whitaker returned to the school system again, this time as a substitute social studies teacher at BNL, a position that also was on a day-by-day basis until a permanent teacher was hired.
