(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Ivy Tech Gayle & Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship are jointly sponsoring a series of workshops to help local businesses learn what it takes to become a contractor with the City of Bloomington and other government agencies.
Four workshops, all free and open to the public, will teach the process of how to bid on local, state or federal government projects. Following the workshops, participants can schedule follow-up meetings with an SBDC advisor for further assistance in improving their business plans.
The first workshop, "Building Your Business," is scheduled for Thursday, October 20th. Troy Phelps and Terri Brown with the SBDC will instruct this session focusing on business feasibility, business plan basics, financial models, identifying customers and competition and how to market to your identified customer.
Guest speaker Lance Eberle with First Insurance Group will host the second workshop on Thursday, October 27th. "Being Bonded, Licensed & Insured" will explain the who, what, why and how of the bonding process.
On Thursday, November 3rd the third workshop with guest speaker Mark Franklin from German American Bank will cover several banking concepts. Included in the workshop will be definitions and uses for a "Financial Toolkit," working capital and the 3-C's: credit, collateral and cash.
For the final workshop on Thursday, November 10th, guest speaker Kevin Easton with Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) South Central will present "Cutting Through The Red Tape" as he explains the ins and outs of registering as a government contractor, finding bid/contract opportunities, local, state and federal bid processes and how to market to the government and/or other prime contractors.
All workshops will be held from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m. at the Ivy Tech-Indiana Center for the Life Sciences, located at 501 N. Profile Parkway, Bloomington, IN 47404.
