Celebrate 8th Annual Oktoberfest At Beck's Mill, Oct. 22

(SALEM) - Beck's Mill will celebrate its German heritage with the 8th annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is the mill's biggest event with several types of music starting at 11 a.m. with the National Anthem by one of Bill Spencer-Pierce's students from Salem High School.

Special music by Hoot Von Woot (George and Megan Napier), various artists on dulcimers, fiddles and banjos, along with Shawn Black, who will play his handmade flutes, will be performing.

A civil war group known as the "Darlington Sentinels" will have a camp and demonstrate soldier activities and others including blacksmithing, mock moonshining, pottery, split shake shingles, walking stick carving, apple peeling, painting and "Little Crow" aka Mindy Foust will demonstrate her bead weaving.

Local artist Jared Kearschner will be highlighted in the old Beck cabin with a special showing of his paintings.

Children will enjoy free activities such as face painting, bead craft and an art table.

A special visit from "Johnny Appleseed" will delight the children with a coloring activity.

The decorated pumpkin contest will start at 1 p.m. in the parking lot area along with many unique craft vendors.

The day would not be complete without our campfire beans and Beck's Mill cornbread.

Adult admission is $5 and children age 16 and younger are admitted free with a paid adult admission. The mill, located at 4433 S. Becks Mill Rd, Salem, closes for the season on Sun. Oct. 30.
