Bedford Man Arrested After Found Yelling Obscenities In Yard

Last updated on Wednesday, October 19, 2016

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he was found yelling in a front yard and became combative with police officer.

Bedford police officers were called to the area of 21st and N streets at 1:54 a.m. this morning after a report of a man yelling obscenities in a front yard.

When police arrived they found 44-year-old Jerry Gibbons in the yard yelling the same obscenity over and over again.

Gibbons was asked to stop.

"That is when he ran back into a home," says Chief Dennis Parsley. "The officers could see him pacing back and forth and screaming the same obscenities."

Gibbons then came back to the door and spit on one of the officers.

The officers then attempted to arrest him, but Gibbons fought with the officers.

"As they were handcuffing him he continued to pull from them and at one point got away," Chief Parsley added. "The officers were able to restrain him and that is when he knocked into one of the officers knocking their body camera off."

An IU Health Hospital ambulance was called to the scene to medically clear Gibbons before he was taken to jail.

Gibbons was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement and battery on a police officer with bodily fluid.
