(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly punched a woman in face Wednesday afternoon.

Lawrence County Police arrested 49-year-old Kenny Deckard on a charge of domestic battery.

According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, officers were called to the home in the 1070 block of Sugar Hill Addition after a 26-year-old woman reported a domestic fight.

"The woman who is in a relationship with Mr. Deckard suffered swelling under her left eye and scratches on her neck."

The woman refused medical treatment.

Officers learned Deckard confronted the woman inside the home.

"He allegedly grabbed her by the neck and punched her in the face.,: Chief Deputy Shoults added. "The woman was able to get away from Deckard and run outside where Deckard began throwing various items at her."

Another male, who also lives in the home, then became involved trying to protect the woman from any further attack from Deckard.

"The victim, the male that was assisting her and another female who lives in the home, got into a vehicle to leave and that is when Mr. Deckard threw something at the vehicle damaging the windshield."

The three left the home and met arriving officers who then arrested Deckard.
