(BLOOMINGTON) - On September 5th at approximately 5 a.m., the Bloomington Police Department received a report of a burglary and possible attempted sexual assault in the 1600 block of S. Henderson.
In that case a female sleeping on the couch in the residence awoke when a male wearing a mask touched her leg. She pulled the mask from his face and he fled the home.
On September 8th at approximately 2:15 a.m., BPD received a report of another burglary and attempted sexual assault in the 500 block of E. 2nd Street. The 20 year old female victim awoke in her bed to a male suspect wearing a mask standing over her. The male told her to take her clothes off or he would kill her. He then attempted to remove her clothing. The victim screamed and fought back and the suspect fled the residence.
At approximately 5 a.m., BPD received a report of a burglary in the 1300 Block of S. Washington Street. The 33 year old female victim woke up to her dog barking and when she got up she confronted a male wearing a mask standing in her home outside of her bedroom door. The male fled the residence.
At approximately 6 a.m., BPD received a report of a burglary in the 400 block of E. Melrose Avenue. The 22 year old female victim woke up and noticed a male suspect wearing a mask crouched next to her bed. She began screaming and the suspect fled the residence.
Investigators believe that all of the above incidents are connected. The description of the suspect is consistent and he is described as a white male in his mid to late 20's, approximately 5'11" to 6'1'' tall and having a thin build. In each incident the victim's home was entered through an unlocked door.
BPD is actively investigating these cases and we encourage residents particularly on the southeast side of Bloomington to make sure they lock their doors and windows, leave exterior lights on during the night hours, keep their blinds and curtains closed, and contact 911 if they notice anything suspicious in their neighborhood.
