Last updated on Friday, September 16, 2016

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford toddler was injured after he was hit by a vehicle while it was backing from a parking space at Day Court apartments on Thursday night.

Bedford police were alerted to the accident at 6:22 p.m.

According to police, 24-year-old Ole Christensen of Day Court was backing out of a parking space and had looked to both sides of his 2012 Toyota Corolla and didn't see anyone or any vehicles behind him.

As he backed out he saw several people run from a porch of one of the apartments toward his car, so he stopped. That is when he saw the small child come out from behind his vehicle.

Police believe the child was directly behind the vehicle where Christensen could not see him.

The child, 3-year-old Drew Miller of Day Court, complained of pain to his lower left arm and was taken by an IU Health Hospital ambulance to the hospital for treatment.
