Three Volunteer Fire Departments Battle Corn Field Fire

(ORLEANS) - Three volunteer fire departments battled a corn field fire on Ind. 37 and County Road 800 North.

When firefighters from Orange County Rural District 2 arrived just before 3 p.m. they found a half picked corn field on fire.

The fire grew bigger and spread quickly. Marion Township VFD and Orleans VFD were call to the scene to assist.

Marion firefighters brought ATV and brush support, while Orleans firefighters protected a nearby barn.

Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control.

There were no injuries, but a couple of firefighters were checked out by emergency crews after suffering smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.

Crews were on the scene for about two hours.
