Salem Man Sentenced To 40 Years After Pleading Guilty To Child Molesting

Last updated on Wednesday, September 7, 2016

(SALEM) - A Salem man was sentenced Friday to 40 years for attacking and molesting a 12-year-old boy.

According to police, 44-year-old Eric Jones entered a Salem home on Oct. 26, 1999 and lay in wait for his 12-year-old victim to come home from school, when he attacked and molested him.

The case was investigated, but went cold until July 24, 2015, when the Indiana State Police Laboratory found a DNA match for the suspect in the case, leading ISP detectives to Jones, who was, at the time, incarcerated in the Scott County Jail on unrelated charges.

On the third day of the trial, on Aug. 10, Jones entered a guilty plea to one count of Class A felony child molesting.

On Friday, neither the defense nor the prosecution made a statement and neither did the victim or his family.

Judge Larry Medlock sentenced Jones to 40 years in prison. He will receive 390 days credit for the time he has already served. He was also ordered to pay $383 in fees for his public defender and court costs.
