Orleans Man Facing OWI Charges Resulting In Death After Fatal Accident

(MITCHELL) - An Orleans man was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, crashing his vehicle and causing the death of his passenger.

Police arrested 48-year-old Andy Evans on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death, operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death with blood-alcohol content more than 0.15 percent, operating a vehicle after forfeiture of license for life and possession of a controlled substance.

According to a Lawrence Superior Court I probable cause affidavit, on June 26, at 8:45 p.m. Lawrence County police responded to a crash in the 2600 block of Spice Valley Road. A witness told police they saw and heard the crash, When they went to the crash site they found a gray 2001 GMC Sierra, which was driven by Evans, had hit a tree head-on. The witness told police, Evans got out of the truck and tripped and fell to the ground.

A Mitchell Police Department officer was the first on the scene and found people tending to Evans and 53-year-old Donald Parsons of Mitchell lying between the front seat and the dash of the vehicle.

Parsons was transported to a hospital and later died of his injuries. Evans was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. A blood test showed Evans' blood-alcohol content was at 0.19 percent.
