The Herald Times reports that eight of the 10 people involved in the crash were transported to hospitals by ambulances or police.

According to a preliminary report from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, a black sport utility vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-semitrailer rig traveling in a northbound lane. After the impact, the semi collided with five additional vehicles, sending a white colored passenger car into the southbound lanes of Ind. 37.

Two drivers who suffered the most serious injuries - one in the white passenger car and another in a tan passenger car - were cut out of their cars by firefighters.

The driver of the semi declined medical treatment at the scene and was taken by a deputy to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for a voluntary blood draw.

Police officers, firefighters and medics for several local department were sent to the scene of the crash on Ind. 37, just north of Sample Road, about 2:45 p.m. Friday.

All lanes of traffic reopened by 6:30 p.m., but police reported it was slow moving and that traffic was backed up in Morgan and Monroe counties.
