(MARTINSVILLE) - Martinsville Chief of Police Rick Lang has resigned.

His last day was Tuesday.

Mayor Shannon Kohl says no specific reason was given for Chief Lang's sudden departure, but Kohl did say "there are growing pains with every new administration" in a statement posted to Facebook.

"Rick was a valuable member of our administration's team and a strong leader for the Martinsville Police Department. His years of experience and wisdom will be missed," wrote Kohl.

Deputy Police Chief Matt Long will serve as acting police chief. Kohl said she has "every confidence Matt will do a great job as he has been doing since we took office in January."
