(WILLIAMS) - A man was arrested Thursday after he was found intoxicated at the bait shop at Williams Dam.
Police arrested 40-year-old William Miller on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest by fleeing.
At 6:49 p.m., Lawrence County Police Department received a call about a man causing fighting with family members at the bait shop. The caller then told a dispatcher that the man had fallen down the stairs and he might have broken his ankle.
The dispatcher alerted an IU Health Hospital ambulance and Williams Volunteer Fire Department.
A short time later the caller phoned back saying family members were loading the man into a vehicle. But within minutes the caller phoned police again to say the man was not cooperating with his family members and they couldn't get him into the vehicle and the man was running toward the dam.
During all of this police were on their way to the bait shop. When police arrived they found the man at the dam on the metal walkway with a knife in his hand, according to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults.
When police asked what he was doing, he ran.
Miller jumped off the walkway into a rocky area and fell to the ground. Police caught up with him and ordered him to drop the knife, which he did.
Miller was arrested and booked into the Lawrence County jail at 7:50 p.m. He posted a $505 cash bond Friday and was released.
