Howl At The Moon Event For Milwaukee Trail Oct. 15

Last updated on Tuesday, September 20, 2016

(BEDFORD) - The second annual Howl at the Moon event will celebrate 10 completed miles of the Milwaukee Trail.

The event sponsored by Friends of the Milwaukee Trail will celebrate the trail being completed from the U Street trailhead in Bedford to near the dam in Williams.

As the trail grows, the need for connectors onto the trail and funds for maintenance increases.

Currently, the trail can be accessed from Lincoln Avenue to the U Street trailhead, a connector at Wilson Park and, heading west out of the Bedford city limits, at Coxton Road and near the Williams Dam.

Howl at the Moon, a bike tour and art festival, will be held on October 15. There will be food and craft vendors, yoga and live music from the start of the trail on Lincoln Avenue at 10th Street, all the way to O Street.

Vendors will begin setting up at 11 a.m. and the art festival will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Live music will play from 2 p.m. to dusk. Acts include Sheepish, Tony Jeffers, an Indianapolis singer-songwriter, and Pet Theft, also of Indianapolis.

The bike tours, in distances of 5, 10 and 20 miles, have staggered starts from 10-11 a.m.

At dusk, there will be a short trail walk, costume contest and the howling contest. The best howler is chosen by applause and donations placed in the howlers' jars.
