Explore "Furs, Fins And Feathers" At Paynetown SRA, Sept. 24

Last updated on Friday, September 16, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Monroe Lake is celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day with a special event called “Furs, Fins and Feathers” at Paynetown State Recreation Area on Saturday, September 24.

"Furs, Fins, and Feathers" is targeted at people, particularly kids, who have an interest in hunting or fishing but aren't sure where to start - or would like to try something different, according to Monroe Lake interpretive naturalist Jill Vance.

The event is free and so is admission to Paynetown SRA on September 24.

Activities start at noon. Event partners will hold demonstrations and presentations throughout the afternoon. A Hunt & Fish Expo runs from 1 to 4 p.m., with 20-minute demonstrations on hunting dogs, falconry, archery, fishing and turkey calling.

"The falconry and hunting dog demos were particularly popular last year," Vance said. "Both of those groups are back this year, and we're excited to have quite a few new partners join us."

A "How to Train a Hunting Dog" seminar is scheduled for 4-5 p.m. The Indiana Raptor Center will close the event with live birds of prey at 7 p.m.

A full schedule is at bit.ly/fursfinsfeathers2016.
