(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after police stopped him for a traffic violation and found 55 grams of meth and three guns in his car Tuesday night.
At 10 p.m. Tuesday an officer patrolling South Leonard Springs Road stopped a blue Chevrolet Cavalier that had a license plate registered to a Pontiac in the 3200 block of West Tapp Road.
According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, the driver, 26-year-old Jared Lentz, told police his driver's license was suspended and he had no insurance when he handed the officer an Indiana identification card.
During the traffic stop police saw a rifle case in the back seat of the car. Lentz then told police he had a handgun under the passenger seat.
A K-9 was brought to the scene and alerted to possible drugs in the car. Officers found three guns - a Ruger 9 mm handgun, a Taurus .40-caliber pistol and an AR-556 semi-automatic rifle. They also found syringes, scales, detailed receipts detailing drug transactions and $1,500 in cash and 55 grams of meth.
Kellams says one of the guns was traded to Lentz for drugs.
Lentz was arrested on charges of dealing in meth, possession of handguns without licenses and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Monroe County Jail at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, and his bond is set at $60,000 surety, $500 cash.
